Gilbert Spurling is a partner, higher court advocate, and criminal solicitor with extensive experience in criminal defence work at all levels. You will find some of his recent cases here. Gil is a true specialist, and his criminal defence work ranges from murders and conspiracy to murder, through complex and serious frauds, to high-value thefts, assaults, money laundering, and complicated drugs conspiracies, including many county lines cases. In some cases, Gil acts as both litigator, preparing the case, and as the advocate at trial. He initially trained as a barrister and is very aware of the way cases present at trial. Recent cases include defending in several murder cases, international frauds, high-value drugs conspiracies, the blockade of an arms fair, firearms offences, arson, and a murder case arising out of the killing of an informer.

Hugo Whalley

Hugo Whalley is a committed criminal solicitor who was promoted to partner in March 2026 having completed his training at Moss & Co some time ago. He is a Crown Court advocate and regularly appears both in the Crown as well as the Magistrates’ Courts. Additionally, he is police station accredited and often represents clients from the outset at the police station through to trial thereby giving a seamless and personal service. He has experience handling a range of cases, including serious violent crime, high value drugs-conspiracies and importation, the conveyance of articles into prison, driving offences, and firearms. He also has positive experience representing youths and vulnerable clients, often reaching favourable outcomes. Separately, Hugo has gained valuable civil/housing litigation experience during his training in housing litigation.

Narinder Moss  is a partner and has over thirty years experience of tenant based housing work. She has deep and extensive experience of criminal law as applied to housing fraud  including the defence of prosecutions and investigations under the Fraud Act and the Prevention of social Housing Fraud Act 2013.

William Buddles assists Gil Spurling and Narinder Moss in the Criminal department. He began his traineeship in June 2024, having worked as an adviser for Citizens Advice from July 2023 to June 2024. William undertook Pro Bono work for the charity Streetlaw whilst completing his legal studies: he completed his LPC in September 2022 after reading English Literature from 2017 to 2020.

Kirit Potiwal assists Gil Spurling and Narinder Moss in the Criminal department. He has completed his bar exams and will become a criminal barrister in due course.  Kirit has a particular interest in complex criminal and fraud cases that require detailed evidential analysis.

Vanessa Thomas has a law degree from Brunel and has passed her Bar exams. She will in due course qualify as barrister and is currently assisting Narinder in housing and Gil in Crime. She works voluntarily at an East London youth centre. She was previously worked at Hammersmith and Fulham Law Centre assisting on immigration cases, and the Grenfell Tower enquiry.

Shenika Ramsay is preparing for the Solicitors Qualifying Examinations (SQE). She assists Narinder Moss in the housing department and Gil Spurling in crime, and oversees administration of police station attendance and bail to returns. Shenika studied Law at SOAS, University of London.
