Gilbert Spurling is a partner, higher court advocate, and criminal solicitor with extensive experience in criminal defence work at all levels. You will find some of his recent cases here. Gil is a true specialist, and his criminal defence work ranges from murders and conspiracy to murder, through complex and serious frauds, to high-value thefts, assaults, money laundering, and complicated drugs conspiracies, including many county lines cases. In some cases, Gil acts as both litigator, preparing the case, and as the advocate at trial. He initially trained as a barrister and is very aware of the way cases present at trial. Recent cases include defending in several murder cases, international frauds, high-value drugs conspiracies, the blockade of an arms fair, firearms offences, arson, and a murder case arising out of the killing of an informer.
Hugo Whalley is a committed criminal solicitor working closely with Gil. He is a qualified advocate in the Magistrates’ Court and is fully Police Station Accredited. He has experience defending a wide range of criminal matters in the police station, Magistrates and Crown Courts. Hugo has also gained valuable litigation experience during his training in housing litigation.
David Barnett works in the criminal and housing departments. He is a Trainee Solicitor and Accredited Police Station Representative. He assists Gil with the conduct of criminal cases, helping in the preparation of defences to charges in both the Magistrates and Crown courts, as well as general casework. He also assists Narinder in the housing department, working on housing cases against local authorities and private landlords, focusing mainly on disrepair, possession proceedings, and homelessness. Aside from his work in the office, David regularly attends police stations to provide representation to clients.
Marvin Thompson works as a paralegal in the criminal department. He studied law at Brunel and has worked for Moss & Co for over ten years. He has expertise in preparing cases for trial in the magistrates court and crown courts at all levels. He regularly attends police stations to advise and represent clients under arrest. Marvin also assists Narinder Moss with housing cases in the county court.
William Buddles assists Gil Spurling in the Criminal department. He began his traineeship in June 2024, having worked as an adviser for Citizens Advice from July 2023 to June 2024. William undertook Pro Bono work for the charity Streetlaw whilst completing his legal studies: he completed his LPC in September 2022 after reading English Literature from 2017 to 2020.
